Best Spot to Farm Cobra Scales - Level 70
If you are a Skinner and/or a Leatherworker in the Burning Crusade you probably already know all about Cobra Scales (WowEcon | Wowhead).
Gained by skinning one of three types of snakes on the shattered planet of Draenor, these go into crafting some really awesome gear for both Rogues and Druids.
But what you may not know is there is a really awesome spot to grind these … on yellow mobs! If you know me, you know I love grinding yellow mobs - you can rest inches away from them, you can answer the door without fear of drawing aggro, not to mention you never have to worry about adds - there are a multitude of reasons why grinding yellow, non-aggroable mobs is superior to the normal red mobs.
These mobs, Twilight Serpents, are located throughout Twilight Ridge in western Nagrand (Wowhead | WowWiki). You will want to stick to the eastern portion of the area, from roughly (18,33) to (19,37).
There are no red mobs in this area, and (for now) it is relatively quiet in terms of other players. These serpents respawn quickly enough that if you simply follow a path the first serpent you slay will respawn by the time you reach the last in the area.
You can also skin these Twilight Serpents for Knothide Leather (WowEcon | Wowhead), and while that’s nothing special in it’s own right, Remember that as a Leatherworker you can use this area to build up a good supply of Nethercobra Leg Armor mats. When you’re taking a break from grinding motes, that is.
If you followed the WowEcon link above, you see that Cobra Scales are currently going for about 14.99 gold (Alliance General Average). Because the drop rates for these are so low and can only be farmed from three level 68+ mobs, you may very likely be able to get up to 20 gold a piece from these, making this a very lucrative item to grind.

Skinned about 30 and didn’t get one, then got pwned by a pvp-geared rogue :
Drop rate is approx 7% so if u get 2 from less than 28 kills u pretty lucky O.o thx for spot btw ^^.
i went there and there about 3 snakes hidden throughout 50 aggroable lvl 70s and among them are 70 elites and a big red 73 elite

Well your urght that it is a good spot but u must be unlucky because on my server cobra scales sell for 40g a piece
Been working this area for the past two days. Sold 14 or so scales for 15g each, most other farmers are selling them for 20-25g each on my server (Korialstrasz). Never farmed for more than 20 minutes at a time. I notice that the drop rate goes way down after you get 4 scales in your bag, so if you can, get your four, go list them and then come back to farm more later.
When you get there, you will see lvl 70 birds there. Don’t be alarmed, they are red mobs, and they will aggro on you, but they don’t attack, they just run away saying they detect danger. This is sometimes annoying because you can’t mount if they’re aggroed on you.
There’s about 8 snakes on one side of the mountain. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see a small building with a female tauren standing outside of it. If you’re a miner, there’s also 4 or 5 nodes that spawn in random places up there, including a khorium vein.
The one thing that most people don’t do is run through the tunnel at the top of the plateau the snakes are on. Through the tunnel, there are 2 more snakes that can be skinned. I seem to be the only person on my server who goes over into this area. There is also a deathforge camp up there, watch for patroling 70’s, including a 70 elite ogre caster that hits like a truck the mail armor of my hunter.
